“Beyond Alliance: Rethinking US-Türkiye Relations in a Changing World” panel held in New York
In a video message that opened the event, Presidential Communications Director Prof. Fahrettin Altun emphasized that sweeping changes in security, economics, humanitarian affairs, and technology demand that the long-standing Türkiye–U.S. partnership move beyond a traditional alliance model toward one grounded in mutual respect, shared interests, and joint action against common threats such as terrorism.
Executive Director Kadir Ustun moderated the first session, “Strategic Ties, Global Impact: Türkiye and the United States,” while Research Director Kilic Kanat joined the roster of distinguished panelists.
Ustun steered the conversation toward the historical arc of bilateral relations and their strategic future, whereas Kanat underscored the “roller-coaster” nature of Türkiye-U.S. ties—arguing that every regional crisis, from the Cold War to today’s Ukraine conflict, reaffirms Türkiye’s pivotal role and opens fresh avenues for cooperation in defense, trade, and technology.
