The Khashoggi Affair: Implications of the U.S.-Turkey-Saudi Crisis

The Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s murder in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul triggered an international crisis with regional implications to come. The gruesome details outraged the international audiences and the Saudi actions in the aftermath of the event have severely strained the relations with the U.S. As the Saudi have been unwilling to provide a timely and coherent explanation, the U.S. media and lawmakers have put immense pressure threatening sanctions among other measures. Some even have called for the U.S. to oppose the succession of Muhammad bin Salman (MBS). The Khashoggi affair is likely to have long-lasting implications for a region pulled in different directions by crises as well as the U.S. policy toward the Saudi.

To discuss the strategic implications of the Khashoggi affair, kindly join The SETA Foundation at Washington D.C. at 12:00pm – 1:15pm on October 25, 2018.
